Preparation

Indica of Sativa

Although most types of weed are a cross-fertilization of the Sativa and the Indica, it is good to know the difference between those two types. Most Dutch weed originates from this.

Features of the Sativa are:

  • Grow higher
  • Thin long leafs
  • Need more time in the Flowering phase
  • Continue growing in the Flowering phase
  • Large slender plant
  • Needs a lot of light
  • A lot of THC
  • The weed produces a more high effect (energetic)
  • Suitable as a medical weed

Features of the Indica are:

  • Compact, dense plant with heavy tops
  • Grow more in a circle than the sativa
  • Shorter flowering time
  • Grow less high
  • A lot of CBD
  • Bigger yield
  • The weed has a relaxing effect (stoned)
  • Suitable for use as a medical weed, especially as a painkiller and against insomnia
  • Large dark green leafs

Germination

Specification- germination of weed seeds in a cup of water

Care for a surroundings temperature of minimum 20 degrees otherwise the seeds will not optimally germinate. Fill a cup with water and put your seeds in the cup. After 2 to 4 days the seeds should open, you will see a sort of stalk, this is not the stalk but it is the root. Put these germinated seeds approximately 0.5 - 1 centimetres in the ground with the root facing down.

Specification-germination of weed seeds on a wet surface

Put the seeds on a surface that holds damp, for example wadding or toilet paper on a saucer. Damp the wadding or toilet paper, but be careful and don’t make it too wet. The moist in the wadding or toilet paper evaporates rather fast at room temperature, so it is most important that the seeds remain moist during the period that they must germinate. So it is important to keep damping the wadding or toilet paper. Because of the damp that draws in the seeds, the seed will be activated and starts to germinate. You can also cover the seeds with a piece of moist wadding or toilet paper and put an opposite saucer on top.

Specification-germination of weed seeds in ground/earth

Every plant knows that he must grow upwards. You can put the seeds therefore also directly in the ground, however statistics shows that the chance of germination of the weed seeds is smaller than at the other manners.

Male or Female

Only females produce THC, so we do not need the male plants. Even more the male plant can obstruct the growth of the female plants, because they fertilize them.

Therefore it is important the male plants should be recognized and removed before they fertilise the female plants.

Even if you have feminized or female seeds, it is possible some of the seed is male or hermaphrodite. A hermaphrodite is both male and female; these have both female flowers and male flowers. So its important to check the armpits of the cannabis plant on a regular basis. The difference between a male and a female plant can be recognised by a lot of things. A female weed plant looks healthy and has many ramifications. But the best way to find out if you are dealing with a male or a female is to look at the armpits of the leafs. The picture shown below is a female, to be recognized by a hair coming out of the head.

What also helps to recognize a female is the beginning of flowering. A female plant will then show hairs everywhere at the ends of the ramifications. Where subsequently the tops will grow as you can see in the picture below.

The male plants can often soon be recognized for not looking really healthy. Moreover they only grow vertically so do not have many ramifications. The male plant neither looks that full and fat. The male weed plant often does not have that many leafs as a female plant does.

The male weed plant can also be recognized by the round globules in the armpits, just like on the picture below.
